Tariq Khraishi, professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, was honored this month at a conference for a paper he authored.

The paper, “A Scholarship Program with Wrap-around Services to Support Career Development: A Win-Win Situation,” won third place in the “Best Faculty Paper” competition. He received both a certificate and a monetary award.

The award was presented at the ASEE Gulf-Southwest Section annual conference at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, which was held March 8-10.

Nasir Ahmed, a University of New Mexico alumnus and professor emeritus, has been selected to the National Academy of Engineering’s class of 2026 for his work inventing the discrete cosine transform, which is the data compression format that serves as the basis for most digital media standards.

Donna Riley, Jim and Ellen King Dean of Engineering and Computing was recognized recently as an Engineer of the Year by the New Mexico Society of Professional Engineers during their annual EWeek Conference luncheon held at The University of New Mexico on Feb. 20.

The theme of the conference was “Transform Your Future” and was co-organized with the Society of Women Engineers.
